Academic Field Trips

Field Trips are planned to coincide with classroom studies at all levels. Below is a list often taken by each grade. In some cases these trips are not necessarily taken annually.

Kindergarten - pumpkin patch, PAYS (Performing Arts for Youth), Fire Station, SF Symphony

First Grade - pumpkin patch, S.J. Discovery Museum, S.F. Zoo, Rengsdorff Park in Mountain View by train, SF Symphony, PAYS (Performing Arts for Youth)

Second Grade - S.F. Basic Brown Bear Factory, Academy of Sciences and Steinhart Aquarium in Golden Gate Park, pumpkin patch, Coyote Point Museum, SF Exploratorium, SF Symphony, PAYS (Performing Arts for Youth)

Third Grade - SF Exploratorium teamed with 5th grade, pumpkin patch, SF Zoo, San Mateo City Tour, radio and television stations tour, SF Symphony, PAYS (Performing Arts for Youth)

Fourth Grade - Mission Dolores in San Francisco, SJ Discovery Museum, Sanchez Adobe in Pacifica, San Mateo Historical Museum, Coyote Point, SF Symphony, PAYS (Performing Arts for Youth)

Fifth Grade - SF Exploratorium teamed with 3rd grade, SF Symphony, and PAYS (Performing Arts for Youth). The highlight of the 5th grade is the five-day Outdoor Education program at C.Y.O. Caritas Creek in Sonoma County. Environmental studies and community building are emphasized and strengthened by this experience. Through cooperative learning activities such as nature studies, hiking, and canoeing, students focus on the balance of nature in several different ecosystems. Swimming, campfire activities, archery, skits, and serendipities (reflective activities) are also part of the camp experience. The St. Timothy students also meet children from other Bay Area schools. They develop a sense of community through shared experiences and as pen pals after the trip.

Sixth Grade - NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley, SF Symphony, PAYS (Performing Arts for Youth), Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose, SF Academy of Sciences

Seventh Grade - Angel Island, Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose, Oakland Museum, Coyote Point Museum, Serra High School plays and musicals, PAYS (Performing Arts for Youth), American Conservatory Theater plays, USS Hornet, USS Jeremiah O’Brien, Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos, and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Eighth Grade - Fort Point, Treasure Island, SF Presidio, Alcatraz and Pier 39, SF Palace of the Legion of Honor, Serra High School plays and musicals, Golden Gate Bridge walk, Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, American Conservatory Theater play and theater tour, SF Symphony, and the Sacramento tour (includes state capitol, Sutter’s Fort, Railroad Museum, and Old Sacramento)
